Attention! We’re building better care

At Sparrow, our commitment to providing the best Patient care includes facilities that promote healing and good health.

A series of new construction and renovation projects, both on and off campus, are underway to integrate cutting edge technology, modern facilities, and convenient locations to better meet the changing needs of our community.

This website, buildingsparrow.org, has been developed to allow Caregivers, Patients and visitors to follow our progress to build a healthy future.  Here you’ll find the latest updates, photos, and information on accessing Sparrow services affected by construction.

One of the first improvements that will affect Patient and Caregiver access starts in mid-July with the temporary relocation of the Sparrow Main Emergency room entrance. This change, expected to last six months, is due to construction in the parking deck as we consolidate and expand our OR services.

Other projects underway at this time include completion of the Sparrow Neurosciences Center on Tower floors 9 & 10, the build-out of Tower floors 7 & 8, construction of a new Grand Ledge Ambulatory building, an addition to the Sparrow Clinton ER, and construction of a replacement hospital in Ionia.

Our work to build a healthy future will span several years, so be sure to follow new developments and improvements right here at buildingsparrow.org.

Sparrow Caregivers recently had the chance to leave their mark on The Gathering Place – a modern and upscale dining area on the main campus of Sparrow Hospital – currently under construction.

Caregivers were given the opportunity to sign their name to the final beam to be placed.

Support from our region and our Caregivers is what allows us to transform health care, expanding and improving our services to bring you quality, compassionate care, in a healthy, healing environment.

Construction is expected to be complete by 2016.

Sparrow has undertaken a significant investment in the community, more than $285 million in construction and information technology projects over a five-year period, as we continue to transform care, implement best practices, and deliver nationally recognized care.

Laying the foundation for a healthy future

With every passing day big changes are apparent in the construction on the main campus along Michigan Avenue.  Initial site prep has been completed and the crews have started work to lay the foundations for the new Sparrow Plaza and Herbert-Herman Cancer Center.

Across the street, they are well underway with the foundation for the new Sparrow Gathering Place too!

Sparrow breaks ground on new Sparrow Health Center Lansing

Sparrow broke ground on the Sparrow Health Center Lansing, an all-new campus that will expand access to primary care, provide senior health services, and offer streamlined and comprehensive care in one convenient location.

The new Sparrow Health Center Lansing will be located on the grounds of the former Medical-Dental building at 2909 E. Grand River Avenue, just west of US-127 in Lansing Township.

The 70,000-square-foot building will house a drive-thru Pharmacy, Laboratory, Endoscopy, Diagnostic Imaging including CT, Ultrasound, Mammography, MRI and more in addition to three Sparrow Medical Group practices.

At Sparrow, a major part of our efforts to transform care involves reconfiguring our facilities to meet the expectations of our Patients and their families for quality care in a healing environment. By combining a range of services into one facility our Patients can see their physician and get follow-up care such as Radiology or prescriptions, all in one visit to one location.  This not only improves the Patient experience, but also helps to ensure easy access to necessary follow-up care, ensuring a better health outcome.

Preliminary site preparation is underway and the Sparrow Health Center Lansing is expected to be complete in 2017.

Construction crews are well underway clearing grass and concrete and preparing a solid foundation for the new Sparrow Plaza and Herbert-Herman Cancer Center.  Despite the wet weather things are coming along well and the site is changing daily!  As you can see in these photos, the area of the former Bingham Elementary school has been cleared, along with portions of the parking lot around the former Sparrow Foundation building. Stay tuned for updates throughout the summer on our progress.

“We are in the midst of a time of exciting change at Sparrow – growing, increasing our capacity, expanding our services, and extending our reach to care for our Patients throughout the region,” said Dennis Swan, Sparrow President and CEO. “Our success is a direct reflection of the faith people have placed in Sparrow to care for their families.”
